Fantastic Rifle!
I purchased a .22 Mutant after looking at several other rifles at R&L. The recommendations by the guys at R&L were spot on. I wanted an air rifle that was quiet, accurate and had a great trigger. The Mutant was all of that. The trigger system is really unique and very adjustable. You can adjust almost everything about it. You can find several YouTube videos that show how to adjust the trigger. Talontunes also has a very nice labeled picture on their site. This is the link: http://talontunes.com/shop/taipan-mutant-22-in-long-or-short/ then scroll down to find the picture. The trigger is fantastic – I have mine set so that the first stage is about 4 ounces and the trigger breaks at about 18 ounces. I also added R&L’s moderator so this rifle is so quiet it is hard to believe. It would probably be quiet enough with the standard moderator it already has but I wanted it as quiet as possible. It really is ridiculously quiet! Plus it looks great too.
I shot the rifle while there at R&L and it was amazing! One hole groups all day long at 35 yards. Likes JSB 18.13gr pellets. The rifle is also regulated. I shot 30 pellets and had an average velocity of 866 fps, had an extreme spread of only 13 fps! The pressure started at 235 bar and ended at 175 bar. The velocity can be adjusted but I didn’t change mine at all – just fine where it is.
I put an Aeon scope on it and it is great. The cheek weld is a little different because of the bullpup design. I like to have a cheek piece so it felt a little strange to have my face touching the receiver. I had some Cheek-Eez foam left over from another rifle so I just cut two small pieces to fit the receiver. Very comfortable now.
The guys at R&L are the best and they have a great selection of great rifles and accessories. I live about 200 miles away but make the trip to their shop because they are the best. I highly recommend them and I really recommend the Mutant.

Enter The Mutant!
Enter the Mutant!
Taipan Mutant Standard, .22 Caliber.
This is a Bullpup air gun that packs a punch; there are attached accessories for this little guy that come in the box, two sets of pins or pegs. One thick set to remove the threaded end cap on the built in moderator, for cleaning and such. A set of thinner ones, for the adjustment of the shooting velocity.
It will also include “O” rings and two rotary magazines as well as a single shot tray.
Talamount if I am not mistaken is the factory manufacturing these beauties, they are from Ukrainian origin and sport CZ cold steel hammered barrels that are of excellent craftsmanship. The accuracy of the one I purchased is outstanding! It is achieving Ten shot 7.8 mm – that’s only 5/16 of an inch groups at 20 to 25 yards and can snipe out those pesky European Starlings out to 98 or 115 plus yards without any problems; my longest recorded shot off a pine tree was 138 yards.
I coupled my Mutant with a Hawke Sidewinder 30 the 8-32X56, I had the Hawke Airmax 30 on it but decided to switch for now. It is shooting at an average of 923 fps with 18.13 JSB Exact Jumbo Heavy Diabolos, that is comparable to 34.24 Ft. Lbs. of Energy, can you say Sledge Hammer?!!! And my Ukrainian Mutant loves them JSB's 18.13!
Mine came with the beautiful beech stock finish and looks and feels fantastic, the design as many have said is not the very best, but the fit once it is in your hands when shooting, is just great! It is nicely silent out of the box, I felt it was a slightly more quiet than my Kalibrgun Cricket .22 Bullpup, the Mutant is stock out of the box.
